RE: 'muret' Could this be a simple sp. mist. in place of the verb 'murer',= to brick up, block up the stairs?

Do you know if this is inside or outside?Muret tends to suggest in the garden in which case i would agree with Helen .If it's inside then could it be refering to the rise of the treads , especially if this is in concrete?

dry stone walling to sides of steps

This would be my guess; that it is either dry stone walling or just a small expanse of walling to enclose a series of steps.

See the either/or comment given with my suggestion. My guess is based on the use of a dictionary (Harraps) in which it gives both possibilities which I then give in turn. We're now obliged to enter something into the term field; can't just say see below.

Là encore, on peut recourir à la méthode manuelle pour de petites quantités de panneaux. Dans ce cas, empiler sur une surface plane les feuilles an escalier, avec un décalage égal a 6 ou 8 fois l'épaisseur. Raboter ou poncer soigneusement l'angle des marches jusqu'à obtenir un biseau régulier.
