English term

In Jerusalem's day

English Art/Literary Religion
Nothing of the world shall follow them [the wicked] to hell, but the bitter remembrance of the good things they possessed, and the guilt contracted by the influence of such a possession. "But the righteousness delivereth from death." ***In Jerusalem's day, the poor and the righteous alone escaped***. The righteous shall not be subdued by the first, nor touched by the second death.

Is this referring to some Bible passage, or does it mean "some day in the past in Jerusalem"?

Possibly a reference to Psalm 137

Psalm 137 talks of "the day of Jerusalem". Even if your passage isn't referring to that, I suspect it is referring to some kind of monumental event in the history of Jerusalem - the destruction of the city in A.D. 70 springs to mind here as well. It was some kind of day of judgment, destruction or both in Jerusalem, from which only the poor and the righteous escaped.

Palm Sunday

in the Christian calendar, the Sunday before Easter, sixth and last Sunday in Lent, and the first day of Holy Week. It recalls the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem riding upon an ass, when his followers shouted “Hosanna” and scattered palms in his path. In the Roman Catholic and some Protestant churches, ceremonies of the day are the blessing and distribution of crosses made from palm leaves and the recitation of one of the three synoptic accounts of the Passion. Many wear crosses made of the palm.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Rowan Morrell : But what about "the poor and the righteous alone escaped" bit? That doesn't seem to have too much to do with Palm Sunday.

When Jerusalem was the centre of the world

is another possibility, but probably less likely. The context may give further clues.

Main reason for my posting is that the writer could better have written \"ON\" Jerusalem\'s day, if the reference were to do with a specific event.

sort of day of reckoning for jerusalem

What in Spanish you would translate as "cuando le llegó su día a Jerusalén..." referring to the destruction of the city in A.D. 70.
