Sure, 'while moving house' is possible and maybe even cleaner, there's nothing wrong with using 'house-moving', in the English language. Call it stylistic choice. I'm running out of characters for my rebuttal, but simply do a Google on 'house moving' & c.

This is used all the time in speech; however, it is informal in nature, due to its eliptical nature.
