Va por ahi la cosa? No se si quisieras ser mas literal con lo de "fellow" como camarada, compinche, etc.

Compara la sonrisa del rey, que al parecer no se aprecia, con la sonrisa de los compañeros gusanos. Puesto en el mundo animal, borrego se usa más, aunque no me parece perfecta solución decir "sus seguidores borregos".
Te podría servir "las sonrisas de sus seguidores que se arrastran ante el como gusanos"
