English term

enter a public covenantal contract

English to Spanish Art/Literary Religion Genesis & marriage
The seriousness of this commitment is implied in Exodus 20:17, ‘you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife …’ (the seventh commandment) and is illustrated beautifully in the book of Ruth when in the climax of that book, not only the land but Ruth (and thus Naomi’s heritage) are redeemed. Boaz and Ruth are thus committed publicly to each other at the meeting of the elders in the gate at Bethlehem. What a far cry from the casual relationships entered into today. Marriage is a covenant within society in which one man and one woman ***enter a public covenantal contract*** before God to belong to each other.

Discussion

jacana54 (X) Mar 3, 2009:
