Genesis & marriage
Man and woman both needed a covering (Genesis 3:21). God made coats of skins. As we shall see in a later chapter, this shows God’s care and provision spiritually in providing the atonement for our sin. In the context of sexuality and man-woman relationships, we also see here the important origin of clothing. Whereas in Genesis 2:25, they were naked and not ashamed, Adam and Eve now knew that they were naked and were ashamed before God (Genesis 3:7). Clothing was essential, for lust and greed must be restrained. The reason for clothing is difficult to justify if we accept the tenets of evolution and deny the historicity of Genesis. The animals ***are essentially unclothed***. Why shouldn’t we be? The ultimate appeal can only be to Genesis 3.
