Though we have touched on headship (Section 4.3) it is most important that we understand that in the light of the literal fall of man and woman before God, we will no longer naturally function correctly as couples in marriage. Who could not agree that there is something very beautiful when two young people, engaged to be married, are obviously happy ***in their love and romance together***? But it would be foolishness indeed to think that this alone could carry a marriage through to maturity. The rose-bed will easily grow weeds as well; the calm sunny days give way to ferocious storms. It is because of the Fall that God has laid down clear rules for his people within marriage.
