... porque estava causando engarrafamento no trânsito

ou "... porque o trânsito estava ficando engarrafado", "porque estava atrapalhando o trânsito", algo nesse sentido.

Isabel, hoje eu estava no dentista lendo Veja e li a expressão "represar o trânsito", falando do trânsito em São Paulo. Lembrei desta pergunta. Veja google hits:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org....

Backing up
Backing up (also known as reversing) is driving in the reverse of any vehicle in order to maneuver. Rear view mirrors are standard equipment for this endeavor. Extremely large or luxury vehicles may have in addition technical aids such as backup cameras. Many industrial vehicles such as fork lifts automatically activate a warning beep whilst backing up.
