Un'intervista a un artista contemporaneo. L'intervistatore chiede:

If I understand you correctly, a certain illegibility of the project of Conceptual art opens a possibility to rethink the image, or perhaps even, the imaginary, as a relation to the sign. The signs you produce function like indicii. This becomes particularly evident when you imitate or manipulate procedures of reproduction that allow the reader to judge by finding traces, not only of how things are produced, but also traces of obvious fiction. In this respect, the way you use material like fake antique silver seems to play on a register that signifies beyond the material’s meaningful appearance. I would even be tempted to say that you solely work with this excess of signification, which consumes the material. Rather than transforming material into a distinct sign, a certain **indistinction** produces the sign as possible evidence of an occurrence whose meaning we do not know. What occurs are, as you say, social relations. You also said that these relations cannot be communicated as information, but only traced as sedimentations of what you’re calling the “graphic support”: a mute support, which speaks tomes. This sounds like, please excuse me since I mean it as a compliment: formalism. Such a grammar of social relations implies a reading lesson. But why should “graphics” be a privileged site where such social relations can be studied?
