The terms admission, confession, recognition, etc. would not be as neutral as acknowledgment. As this is a legal document, at the scene of suspected offense, guilt is only alleged, not yet proven. You admit to your guilt in court in front of a judge or magistrate. If you are a catholic, you usually confess your sins in the confession box to a Father or Priest. (Why in the world would you want to confess if your sins don't get atoned?) Recognition implies something positive, like the difficult language skills and continual learning spirit that many translators have. Acknowledgment on the other hand, does not necessarily imply acceptance of guilt or wrong doing by anyone, particularly in a law enforcement case. It may simply be an acceptance of some facts, or perhaps you were asked or forced to sign on a piece of paper which you haven't read!
