No matches 50%-74%? Thread poster: Jos Joosten

When I analyze a text, I never get matches between 50% and 74%. When I count the same text in another CAT tool, I always get matches in this range. Is there a setting in Wordfast that I missed? | | | Clarisa Moraña Türkiye Local time: 20:41 Member (2002) English to Spanish + ... The other CAT tool might have similar translations | Nov 12, 2024 |
I believe you must be analyzing the document with an empty translation memory in Wordfast, while the other translation tool already have similar texts in their TM, thus providing you fuzzy matches. | | | Jos Joosten Germany Local time: 18:41 German to Dutch TOPIC STARTER
I'm sorry, maybe I explained my problem wrong. I'll try again.
Before I translate a text for a specific customer, I run an analysis in Wordfast Pro so that I can tell the customer how much this translation will cost them. To do this, I use the translation memory I use for that customer. After the analysis, I get a value in segments, words or percentages for each range of fuzzy matches (i.e. 100%, 95%-99%, 85%-94% and 75%-84%). Only for 50%-74% do I always get the value 0 for segments, word... See more I'm sorry, maybe I explained my problem wrong. I'll try again.

Only for 50%-74% do I always get the value 0 for segments, words or percentages, regardless of the text and the TM. In the report, the 50%-74% range always remains empty (0 segments, 0 words, 0 percentage).
However, this is not the case if I use the same TM in another CAT tool. In other CAT tools, I always get a value for the 50%-74% range in my report.
So Wordfast Pro does not count the 50%-74% range in an analysis. How can that be? ▲ Collapse | | | Lieven Malaise Belgium Local time: 18:41 Member (2020) French to Dutch + ...
I used to have a similar problem in the past (using Trados or Studio) with 1 customer, but it basically doesn't matter because 50-74% matches should always be paid 100% (at least they are in my world). So whether these words appear as fuzzies or as no matches, it remains the same for the price calculation.

Yes, you are right. 50-74% matches should always be paid 100%. But the thing is that they do not appear at all. And not only for one customer. I always get reports without a counting for 50-74%. What could be the reason for that?

I don't know what the reason is, but if they don't appear that means they are among the no matches, so there would only be a problem if you would like to apply a reduction to the 50-74%.
Perhaps there is a specific setting somewhere that allows you to take them into account or not? | | | Jos Joosten Germany Local time: 18:41 German to Dutch TOPIC STARTER
Unfortunately that is not the case. I never had any counts in this 50%-74% range with Wordfast Pro and I never really noticed it until I wanted to make a comparison in word count between Wordfast Pro and another CAT-tool. I think I will have to confront the Wordfast support with this phenomenon. | | | Kate Chaffer Italy Local time: 18:41 Member (2009) Italian to English Set fuzzy match threshold | Nov 13, 2024 |
Have you tried Preferences -> Translation Memory -> Set fuzzy match threshold (%)?

Yes, I did. I changed the default setting of 75% into 50% but still no results for the 50%-74% range. | | | WFP does include the 50–74% range in its analysis report but... | Jan 31 |
Here's what the header row in a CSV file generated by WFP's analysis function looks like:
,,Context,,,,Leveraged,,,,Repetitions,,,,Internal Fuzzies,,,,100% Matches,,,,"95%-99%",,,,"85%-94%",,,,"75%-84%",,,,"50%-74%",,,,No Match,,,,Ignored,,,,Total,,,
This means that the 50–75% range is included, theoretically. Why it isn't reported, though, is another question. It could simply be a bug that was never fixed. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » No matches 50%-74%?
