Wouldn't it be a good idea to create a special section in the Proz.com forums called "Scam detection".People would list the names of the people/companies believed to be scammers.
This would very useful for the translator community I think.
In the meantime could you tell me if this is a scam or not? Im' 98% sure it is because I think I saw this name somewhere on Proz.com forums;

If it's a cheque it is probably a scam. About your proposal, I am afraid due to the site rules, you are not allowed to post names or e-mails of companies so I guess your idea won't happen. But you could create a blog and I would be happy to collaborate!

I received the same offer for translation into German. Expressing wariness of virtually anonymous e-mail accounts (this one looked like Ghana), I asked for full details of the project and Mr Moore and stated I wasn't available before April. In reply, I got the text to translate, a deadline of two months from February 5th, and the offer of a cheque for advance payment. I received the same "offer" this morning with a Word file in attachment, containing the text to be translated.
This "client" promises payment by BANK GUARANTEED CERTIFIED CHECK.
He didn't mention the target language for this "translation".
