Hi, I am the author and editor of a travel guide about the Algarve/Portugal. A first English translation of this book was published in 2022. In the meantime, I have revised the German original and would like to transfer it into the English version.

1. Use the bilingual files to create a translation memory (give the TM a name)
2. Import the current German Word documents (one by one) and connect it to/attach it to the translation memory from step 1
3. The translation memory will process it automatically showing you 100% matches (that you will skip) and less than 100% ones that you will edit and change. Then repeat the same with the next German Word file, etc. You can export the edited target files for English, one by one.

X-Translate is method that works very well if you have an update to the original document. Re-import the updated document, and perform X-Translate.
There are some conditions required for X-Translate to work, and I am not sure of the exact requirements. I make sure that the file name for the updated file is the same as the original, re-imported as mid-project update. Then X-Translate will match every segment that has not been modified by split/join, or by a different segmentation r... I'd suggest to charge a native English translator with the task. They know how to handle it.
