Hello to all Prozians,
I have been trying to find out whether there is a CAT Tool for MAC users. Does anybody in the translation world work on MAC?
Thank you all in advance for your help.

WordFast is a fine solution on the Mac. Unfortunately, Word 2004 was the last version of Word for Mac that it will work with. I've used it with both Word 2001 and Word 2004 and was basically happy with it.
I believe that OmegaT works on Macs. The last time I tried it, OmegaT wasn't nearly as robust as some of the better-selling Windows CAT tools. But I understand that it's been developed considerably since then.

Of course, the other option is to take advantage of the new Intel-based Macs' ability to run Windows software, but I imagine you're looking for a Mac-native solution.

You'll need Java Runtime Environment, but it's said to be pre-installed with Mac OS X.
Anaphraseus is to watch. It's beta still, but may evolve into a usable application. | |

Why not run Windows on OSX? | Jun 2, 2008 |
Hi Laura,
This might be obvious, but if you have a newer Mac with the Intel hardware you can run Windows natively using Parallels, VMWare or Bootcamp. This way all the Windows-based will work.
And yes, OmegaT runs on Macs perfectly fine.

If you have one of the new Macs, | Jun 2, 2008 |
you can partition the hard drive and install Windows (I have XP on mine), which will then allow you to install Trados. It works for me!
Having said that, you are also going to need a PC keyboard, so you can use the "Home" key, which does not exist on the Mac keyboard.

I have successfully installed the last version of Wordfast and I have Word 2008. I haven't used it for real, but it seems to work just fine.
And BTW...what's the fun of having a Mac and use Windows? Lol...

Trados on Parallels | Jun 3, 2008 |
Hi Laura,
I have been using Trados on Parallels for a couple of years now, with no problem whatsoever. But it is a pity that Trados still does not run on Mac.
Ciao,

No fun at all, Fabiana, (which is why I only have it installed there for emergencies) but currently it's the only way you can run Trados on a Mac. Perhaps SDL will see the light soon and end the pain for us Mac aficionados.
Cheers
