Hello,
I did a search on www.expedia.co.uk and found a number of affordable hotels either in the centre of Edinburgh or easily accesible by public transport. You can obviously do your own search, the information provided below is just a selection. I did a search on www.expedia.co.uk and found a number of affordable hotels either in the centre of Edinburgh or easily accesible by public transport. You can obviously do your own search, the information provided below is just a selection. I'm not including pricing, as this is beyond our control and subject to change, but you're looking at approx. £34-46 for a single and £48-57 per night for a double room.
Kenneth Mackenzie Suite (2*)
7, Richmond Place
Edinburgh, EH8 9ST
Converted student accommodation set in Edinburgh’s historic city centre, within walking distance from the conference venue. Guests wake up to a full Scottish breakfast each morning, which can be taken in the hotel’s breakfast room.
Basic and simple no frills accommodation.
Grassmarket hotel (2*)
94-96 Grassmarket
Edinburgh, EH1 2JR
Historic grey-stone building located beneath the castle on the lively Grassmarket, within walking distance from the conference venue. After a complimentary buffet breakfast guests can quiz staff at the 24-hour front desk for information on local attractions. Beware: the Grassmarket area is popular with stag and hen parties, so stay away, if you fancy somewhere quiet.
Tailors Hall Hotel Edinburgh (3*)
139 Cowgate
Edinburgh EH1 1JS
Historic building converted in 1998, located 500 meters from Edinburgh Castle and within walking distance from the conference venue. The hotel bar opens onto a cobbled courtyard. Guests may be affected by noise, mainly at the weekend, from The Three Sisters bar which is attached to the hotel.
Ellersly House Hotel (3*)
Ellersly Road
Edinburgh, EH12 6HZ
Ivy-clad Edwardian country house set in secluded gardens in suburban Edinburgh, a short drive or 30 minute walk from the city centre. November might be a tad too cold for the gardens though…
Swallow Learmonth Hotel (3*)
18-20 Learmonth Terrace
Edinburgh, EH4 1PW
Georgian hotel on a tree-lined terrace in Edinburgh’s west end, less than a mile from Princes Street and Waverley Station.
Links Hotel Edinburgh (3*)
4-6 Alvanley Terrace
Edinburgh, EH91D
Beside the Bruntsfield Links, this 26-room townhouse hotel is located in a residential part of Edinburgh. Bright guestrooms are decorated in cheerful modern décor; all have private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries.
Linton Court Apartments (3*)
7 Murieston Road
Edinburgh EH11 2JJ
Modern apartment building set in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh within one mile of the Castle and bustling Princess Street. Contemporary self-contained apartments all with fully-fitted kitchens and living rooms with televisions and phones. ▲ Collapse | | | Flights via Dublin | Jul 17, 2006 |
After a lot of research, I found the best way to reach Edinburgh from southern Germany (Karlsruhe/Baden) is via Dublin. This was cheaper and more convenient than via London Stanstead with Easyjet to EDI. There are 3 flights a day each way between Dublin and Edinburgh. Today I paid €1.99 + taxes each way for this step. As Dublin is Ryanair's home airport, they fly from here all over Europe (including Edinburgh!) | | | Rebekka Groß (X) Local time: 04:04 English to German TOPIC STARTER cheap flights to Edinburgh | Jul 26, 2006 |
Hi Everyone
If you're trying to figure out the cheapest way to come to Edinburgh from your country/city try http://www.whichbudget.com/en/ (which can be displayed in different languages). Hopefully it will prove useful to some of you.

Transport from airport to the city and back: http://www.flybybus.com/
The cost of a return journey is 5 Pound and you can book online
For anyone interested in possible joining for travel (and accomodation) here are my booking data:
Flight:
November 9, Thursday:
Dortmund to London Luton on 7:10 am, arrival at 7:50 am.
London Luton to Edinburgh on 11:15 am, arrival at 12:30 pm
November, 13, Monday:
Edinburgh to London Luton on 16:40, arrival at 17:55
London Luton to Dortmund on 19:20, arrival 21:40
If you want to book exactly the same flights, you will need to book Dortmund-London and London-Edinburgh separatedly, as for the back journey there are less than 2 hours between landing and departure of the next flight. Easyjet does allow only at least 2 hours for catching the luggage and checking in. However, if you take cabin luggage, the time left must be sufficient.
Using the GTA Hotels website I found a hotel named Frederick House Hotel, 42 Frederick Street, EH2 1EX Edinburgh, which has a nice price (56 Euro for a single room per night, including breakfast). It is a 3* hotel, located in the heart of Edinburgh.
If you wish any further information please contact me via my profile.
Kind regards

If you're flying to any city in the UK other than Edinburgh, you can get to Ediburgh by a really cheap bus - go to www.megabus.com.

I would be interested in visiting the Rosslyn Chapel, just 6 miles from Edinburgh. If others are also interested, we could get together a group and rent a bus.

Hi Csaba,
Rosslyn Chapel is indeed worth a visit!
You might be pleased to hear that there's no need to rent a bus, as you can go as far as Roslin using Edinburgh's Lothian Buses (and even further). 15A is the one that takes you there.

Hi, everyone. I'm totally overwhelmed by the idea of visiting Edinburgh. But I am wondering, how much can I take in in just 3days and a half? I wish I could live in Scotland for ever and this short visit of mine will turn out to be the most valuable experience in these recent years of my life.
