Translation, editing, proof-reading are my core activities. Since the summer of 2012 I have focused on the translation of books. With almost two decades of experience in a wide range of fields, including political sciences, social sciences, medicine, humanities, engineering, economics, territorial marketing and services, but always in the form of articles and websites, I have found the move to books both challenging and highly rewarding.
Over the past year, I have worked on the translation and revision of three books, and have greatly enjoyed the close contact with the authors this has involved. They include one on medieval weapons (Dardania Editore, publication pending), one on the history of ideas (Brill, February 2014), and one on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant (publication pending). A fourth book, Language and Human Understanding: the Roots of Creativity in Speech and Thought, on which I have been involved as typist, proof-reader, and interlocutor since 1997, will also be published in February 2014 by the Catholic University of America Press.
Writing, my greatest passion, has been with me all my life, and I am currently expanding my range of services to include content writing, copywriting, and ghostwriting. Since 2011, in the course of a long-term period of inquiry and travel in Israel, India, Nepal, Southeast Asia and the Far East, my writing has developed as an explorative response to the experience of memory, perception and the creative act. In answer to a need for a structured space in which to develop my ideas, I have created a blog, Life Writings (robcnorris.com), which is at once an outlet for my creative writing, a forum in which to share information and opinion, and a platform for new projects, be they personal or collaborative.
My university background is in English and Linguistics. I hold a Master of Arts in English from Aberdeen University (2001) and a Master of Studies in General Linguistics and Comparative Philology from the University of Oxford (2002).
