I am ATA Certified from German into English and earned a Master of Accountancy from the University of Louisville in 2008 after previously studying Economics (Volkswirtschaftslehre) at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, with the following areas of academic specialty: finance & accounting and German tax law.
As a result of my studies in Germany, I am well-acquainted with economic and financial issues, as well as with the German Commercial Code (HGB), German GAAP accounting and auditing standards, and various issues of international taxation. However, throughout my studies and beyond, I have focused primarily on IFRS.
Before studying Accounting and Economics, I first began studying Creative Writing and Comparative Literature as well as German at the University of Michigan. These studies evolved into Anglistik (Linguistics and Literature) and Germanistik (German Linguistics) after I decided to remain in Germany following the completion of a study abroad program. Nevertheless, I switched to Economics before completing my Intermediate Examination (Zwischenprüfung).
I honed my spoken and written German language skills to quasi-native fluency, and also attained a solid understanding of German culture, society, politics, history, and economy during my ten years' residency in Freiburg. My longstanding passion for the written word enables me to get beyond a text to clearly and concisely convey its author's intent.
I began translating part-time in 1999, and switched to full-time freelance translation in 2006.
I served as the Assistant Administrator of the ATA's German Language Division from 2012 - 2014 and then as the Administrator from 2014 - 2016. I addition, I served as the Dictionary Review Coordinator for the GLD's newsletter interaktiv from 2011 to 2017 and currently serve on the ATA Business Practices Committee.
