Translation - English Abstract
This article presents research carried out in the Spanish ceramic sector. The aim focuses on determining the degree of use of some of the most representative Lean Production (LP) practices and their effect on the productivity and quality levels of these companies. Results are presented from 76 businesses (79.17% of the total sample) dedicated to single firing ceramics: porous tiles, stoneware floor tiles and porcelain stoneware. The most outstanding conclusion was that, contrary to what was expected, LP is hardly used at all by these companies, without this fact constituting an obstacle to 35% of them achieving high rates of quality and productivity. This work falls into line with others that point out that LP is not a universal system, valid in any circumstances and for any place.
