It is extremely unlikely that a comprehensive interview of a trafficked victim will be completed in one session. It may take an extensive series of interviews, often conducted over a number of days or weeks in order to extract all of the evidence. In fact, case analysis shows that the evidence of grave sexual, physical and psychological abuse is only likely to be disclosed during the later interviews and that victims are extremely unlikely to disclose details of intensely personal and intimate abuse in the initial phases.
Added to these points is the fact that most victims are unlikely to enter any initial interview phase with any degree of trust for the interviewing officers and the development of this vitally important trust and rapport will need to be nurtured during the series of interviews.
A key component of developing this relationship is the continuity of the interviewing team. The selection of the interviewers should also be made on the basis of those officers that will be available to conduct the whole of the interview process, and should exclude those who may only be able to undertake the initial phase before being re-assigned to other commitments. As far as it is possible to do so, the selected interviewers must be able to carry through the whole process of the interview and to maintain the relationship with the victim through to the trial process and beyond. To continually change the interview personnel and to expect the victim to be able re-build trust in new staff and to achieve best evidence is both unrealistic and unfair to the victim-witness

Un composant clé de cette relation croissante est la continuité de l’équipe interrogatrice. La sélection des enquêteurs devrait aussi tenir compte de la disponibilité de ces officiers qui devront être disponibles tout au long du processus d’entrevue et on devrait éviter de choisir ceux qui ne seront disponibles que pour débuter le processus pour être, plus tard, assignés à d’autres tâches. Il faudrait veiller à ce que les enquêteurs choisis puissent, autant que possible, aller jusqu’au bout du processus d’entrevue, et maintenir la relation avec la victime jusqu’au procès et même après. Renouveler continuellement le personnel de l’entrevue et espérer que la victime puisse reconstruire une relation de confiance avec le nouvel employé, et recueillir les meilleures preuves, est à la fois irréaliste et injuste à l’égard de la victime-témoin.
