Source text - English Background: Botulinum toxin treatment is the most frequently performed noninvasive cosmetic procedure performed in the USA. Because of its widespread use, an analysis of the adverse event (AE) profile of Botox injections is needed.
Methods: The FDA Adverse Event Report System was queried using an online web-based tool to determine the top 15 adverse events reported for four Botox brand names: Botox/Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin. The proportional reporting ratios (PRR) and relative odds ratios (ROR) were determined. A literature review was performed for eight AEs of clinical significance: eyelid/eyebrow ptosis, asthenia, muscular weakness, facial paresis, dysphagia, botulism, and death.
Translation - Portuguese Antecedentes: O tratamento com toxina botulínica é o procedimento cosmético não invasivo mais frequentemente realizado nos EUA. Devido ao seu uso generalizado, é necessária uma análise do perfil de eventos adversos (EA) das injeções de Botox.
Métodos: O Sistema de Relatório de Eventos Adversos da FDA foi executado usando uma ferramenta on-line baseada na web para determinar os 15 principais eventos adversos relatados para quatro marcas de Botox: Botox/Botox Cosmetic, Dysport e Xeomin. Os índices de relatos proporcionais (IRP) e os índices de probabilidade relativos (IPR) foram determinados.
