at uniques special ones® 2012
Preparations are coming to a head for the third staging of uniques special ones®, the unprecedented concours, exhibition, and PR event designed by MAC Group.
From 28th to 30th September, roughly one hundred unique cars gathered in the striking setting of the Gherardesca Palace, Convent, and Garden, today the Four Seasons Hotel of Florence, will once again be admired. The programme will be complemented by two galas held in important, historic Florentine Palaces opened exclusively for the occasion.
Treasures on four wheels, elegantly on display in the park, and collectors and lovers of high quality living united in the pursuit of beauty and uniqueness for two days: these are the two simple yet essential ingredients that make up uniques special ones®. Once again, models of great historic and cultural value will line up this year alongside automobiles that hold a place in our hearts for having starred in cult films or belonged to famous figures. From among these cars, a prestigious jury of experts will be engaged in selecting the Best of Show of The Uniques Cars International Concours.
the registered cars
Among the already registered models, attendees will be able to admire up close the 1935 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 Pescara Sport Spider made by Carrozzeria Touring that belonged to Benito Mussolini. Created at the request of Il Duce, who was its owner up until 1939, the car was built on a ‘Pescara’ chassis and, in 1936, participated in the Mille Miglia, driven by Ercole Boratto, its trusted driver of over twenty years, and placing third in its category. Il Duce was one of the fiercest supporters of the 6C 2300, so much so that he had two in his fleet: the spider on display, which he used as his personal car, and a berlina serving as an executive car.
Also attending will be the 1949 Jaguar XK 120 that was once owned by none other than the captivating Clark Gable, the US actor inseparably bound to his interpretation of Rhett Butler in the historic movie ‘Gone With the Wind’ and winner of as many as eight Oscars. And the 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24 ‘born in the spotlight’ that appeared in a movie directed by Camillo Mastrocinque, ‘Porta un bacione a Firenze’.
The 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C Monza in attendance instead boasts a historic past in the sports world as a model carefully conceived to maintain the “Biscione” brand’s supremacy in the Sports car category. Its famous designer Vittorio Jano created a new motor for the model that replicated the stroke and bore of a 1750 straight-eight cylinder engine, in two blocks of four made in light alloy, with the camshaft located at the centre of the engine: this winning choice placed the Portello car among the first eight in the general rankings at the 1933 Mille Miglia, and in the first three at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The ‘automotive career’ of the 1952 Ferrari 340 America bodied by Vignale and registered for uniques special ones® is also worth noting. In fact, in its first year of life, the car competed in the top races of its time: in primis the Mille Miglia with the Taruffi-Vandelli crew, followed by the GP Bem, Le Mans, and the Targa Florio. In the Sicilian race, the Ferrari 340 America was entrusted to Giovanni Bracco, the historic driver who won the 1948 Italian Grand Prix. No less important is the participating 1956 Aston Martin DB3S, the last of eleven works cars created that was entrusted to the young US driver Rod Carveth, who drove it in the top races in the United States (Elkhart Lake, Watkins Glen, and Laguna Seca), and in Australia (Bathurst, Orange, Fisherman’s Bend, and Mount Panorama). The 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C Monza, instead, boasts a history in the Scandinavian races.
the companies and coachbuilders
uniques special ones® 2012 will also be a chance to admire over 10 exceptional Bugatti Veyrons: uniques has been selected as the ideal location for hosting the annual rally of these luxury high-performance supercars, which in 2011 met at the famous Pebble Beach Concours in Monterey.
A themed area, meanwhile, will be devoted to the creations of the coachbuilder Bertone, which shaped the history of the automobile and is celebrating its centennial this year. Established in Torino in 1912, Bertone built cars that made history in the world of motor racing; many will be present at uniques special ones® 2012 from a Giulietta prototype to an Alfa Romeo 2500. Several cars that personally belonged to Nuccio Bertone will also be on display, thanks to support from the Museum, which will provide several models, including a Lamborghini Miura.
uniques international register
uniques special ones® is a brand created by MAC Group. Beginning this year, it has been incorporated as uniques Srl, an ad hoc company dedicated to managing the brand and the event, to develop its internationalization.
uniques Srl will also be responsible for developing the latest, key project connected to the brand: the uniques international register, that is, a register that will unite unique cars throughout the world, certifying their worth and exceptionality on an international level. The admission criteria are the same as those for the uniques Concours, and a jury of experts will make the selections; all cars that are accepted, or that have already participated in uniques special ones® will be entered into the register automatically.
uniques international register is a comprehensive project that will involve leading car companies and their heritage divisions, the most important coachbuilders, and the greatest international auction houses.
The project will be completely digital via a special web portal accessible to all enthusiasts: the website will provide detailed information related to the registered cars, with each car having a dedicated area relating its story and its technical details.
The uniques special ones® 2012 event is confirmed from 28th to 30th September in Florence, in the striking setting of the Gherardesca Palace, Convent, and Garden, today a Four Seasons Hotel.

a uniques special ones® 2012

Bachelor's degree - University of Virginia
Experience
Years of experience: 17. Registered at ProZ.com: Jan 2010.
After earning my Bachelor’s Degree with distinction in English Literature and Language at the University of Virginia, I began a career in social research and publishing. Consistently praised for my writing and eager to apply my skills more specifically, I moved to Italy in 2007 to hone my father-tongue and establish a career in translation. While my work in research has aptly prepared me to translate texts of an analytical nature, my skills are best expressed in material that benefits from an artistic approach. As such, I specialize in the areas of literature, narrative, marketing, tourism, and gastronomy—not because they are accessible, but because they are exceptional. They require an eye that sees intent as well as meaning, and an ear that hears cadence as well as syntax.
Some of my projects have included guidebooks, biographies, tradeshow and conference websites, PR and marketing materials, and articles for both cultural and scientific journals. I am always interested in expanding my client base and strengthening my experience through new linguistic challenges, and I am happy to complete test translations to this end. Thank you for your consideration.
