After graduating from Glasgow University in 1983 with a Master of Arts degree, I worked in the tourist trade in France, Italy and Portugal, where I finally settled.
With 20 years' experience in travel and tourism under my belt, I decided the time was right for a career change and I took the IOL's Diploma in Translation exam (Portuguese to English) in January 2005, obtaining "merit" for the general paper and the law option, and "distinction" for the technology option.
Since then I have been translating full time from both Portuguese and French to English. My main speciality is tourism and I have done many translations for tourist boards, tour operators and hotels. My other specialities include translations for newspapers and magazines, marketing materials, business contracts, academic transcripts and CVs.
As a practising athlete (track, cross-country and road-running) and with cookery as my favourite creative hobby, I offer added insight into translation in these fields.
