Automatic spellchecking saves a great deal of time and extra efforts. I understand that we can use this feature for checking the Hindi spellings also in MS Word but I have been unable to figure it out despite repeated efforts.

Could someone guide me what are the basic requirements for doing so and what procedure should be followed? Do I need some additional software for it?

Thanks in advance.

Microsoft Office Proofing Tools Sep 12, 2004

I'm using Microsoft Office Multilingual Editing and Proofing Tools 2003, which features spellcheckers, thesauri, and grammar and style checkers for approximately 50 languages, including Hindi, on one disk. The proofing tools come in different versions, compatible with different Word versions.
When I researched this issue for Dutch, Microsoft's website was still very unclear about which languages are included, but on the following site you'll find a complete list and it includes Hindi.... See more

The disk is easy to install, although I wish I'd gone for a 'custom install' because I suspect that all 50 languages are now installed on my computer which takes up more memory and certainly wasn't my intention. It automatically ties in with Word. All you have to do is specify the language of your text and then access the spellchecker, thesauri, etc. from 'Tools' on the taskbar.

Thanks for your comprehensive and informative reply, but...... Sep 12, 2004

it appears that the link suggested by you does not exist nowadays as it displays the following message:

"You have a reached a page that has been moved or that no longer exists."

Any further suggestion in this respect will be highly appreciated.

Simply delete the "." in the end of the link:

The proper link to a Microsoft site Sep 12, 2004

Thank you, Natalie. Here is a link to Microsoft's own site on the subject. Some months ago when I bought my copy, this site did not include the list of languages covered. I was only sure at the time that Dutch was covered because the site lists a patch for a bug in the Dutch spellchecker! It may well do so now, but that's why I listed the first reference to the programme I found this morning. Sorry about the extra "." in my earlier reference. <... See more

Office 2003 Sep 12, 2004

I think Office 2003 has full support for Hindi, including Hindi User interface, spellcheck and help files.

That depends rather on where you buy it. Sep 12, 2004

Hi Anil. Langclinic can check that by setting the language of his text to Hindi and seeing which message comes up when he attempts a spellcheck. My guess is that it will come up with 'No Hindi dictionary available' or something to that effect.
I bought my Office 2003 in the UK and it only came with an English (UK) and English (US) dictionary. I assume a version of Office 2003 bought in France, with a French user's language, will come complete with a French dictionary (but no English). I

I bought my Office 2003 in the UK and it only came with an English (UK) and English (US) dictionary. I assume a version of Office 2003 bought in France, with a French user's language, will come complete with a French dictionary (but no English). I know that more expensive MUI versions of Office 2003 exist for organisations, which come complete with more languages, but most of us would not have that version.
Office 2000 did not come with other dictionaries. The language packs I bought with Office 2000 no longer work with Office 2003, which I warned about a few months ago in a different thread because some translators may not realise they will use the functionality of those packs when they upgrade to Office 2003.

Thanks for your input. Sep 12, 2004

I have got Office 2000 and Office XP. Is the facility of Hindi spellcheck available in the same? If so, how can we activate and use it. I'd appreciate if you could elaborate the procedure.

Thanks in advance for your advice.
