This thread will contain the Official program, as soon as it takes shape...
In the meantime, see the draft program, without the exact time and place (room) where each event will take place, and without the proposals coming from the participants.
Post here your proposals
Any participant can post in this thread suggestions and proposals.
If you intend to hold a meeting or a presentation, or gather a focus group, post your suggestion here (please, complete it with a content outline) and collect directly the names of all the interested members.
If a sufficient number of participants shows interest, contact us with the list of names and we will try to insert your topic in the program, allocating a room and a time slot.

The program is still under refinement in terms of its exact content, rooms allocation and time slots, but we have already ensured the following:
Tax issues for UK based freelancers
A representative of a tax consultancy firm will talk about tax legislation and issues relevant to freelancer translators based in the UK.
A brief session with questions and answers will follow. CAT tools training
Products presentations, training and special offers by leading products' representatives.
A session with questions and answers may follow some presentations. Word macros for translators
Basic concepts for handling and writing Word macros, a primer for absolute beginners and something for the already initiated...
If you come with a laptop and MS Word installed, you will be able to follow and replicate the practical and simple examples illustrated during the presentation. The agency side
A representative from a translation agency will offer to freelance translators a view on the other side of the business. Focus groups
All participants can submit a topic for an interest group.
For example: financial translators, or literary, medical, legal translators, or localization, etc...
The topics gathering at least 20-25 interested names will be given a time slot and a space to meet (within availability).

What about a speaker, who can elaborate on payment, credit-collection and the relevant legislation with regard to these issues?

To all participants:
Please, do NOT post your interest in this thread.
We are collecting suggestions, not names here!! or the thread would become impossible to follow... Thank you.
Gianfranco
Dear William,
thank you for your first proposal, which is likely to be of interest for many participants.
Would you like to collect the names of all interested members? If you are, please edit your posting, inviting contacts.
The subject could be discussed with the format of a focus group (as we do not have a speaker for it, at least not yet), or we may try to find a speaker willing to cover this topic...

lim0nka United Kingdom Local time: 23:14 English to Polish Proposal: Subtitling and subtitling software | Aug 1, 2004 |
Probably not all of you will be interested in it, so I would like to suggest it as a topic for a focus group. I thought it would be a nice idea to have a chance to meet in a smaller group and talk about subtitling software and the business itself. Depending on the number of people interested and the problems we would like to discuss, the meeting could take 30-60 minutes.
Please let me know your ideas for such a meeting, topics you’d like to discuss etc.

Please do not post your suggestions regarding the subtitling focus group here, as they will be mixed with other postings and soon we won’t be able to find them. If you e-mail your suggestions to me, I will just add them to this posting.

- a brief low-down on the different financial reporting standards (IAS/IFRS, US GAAP)
- how analysts go about analysing a set of statements - a look at some of the ratios used
I think that ought to keep a group quite nicely occupied for an hour of so. If you're interested, please contact me via my profile page.
Please do note that this is completely conditional on me having a babysitter for Lucy for an hour or two. I don't fancy getting into the nitty gritty of financial statements with a baby crawling round my ankles (I get enough of that at home !!!) ▲ Collapse | | | Lexi-tech Local time: 18:14 Italian to English + ... Hi all,
Provided there's enough interest, I'd be willing to give a short presentation (and to enter into a discussion) on the above subject, based on practical examples. Bearing in mind that many a KudoZ question is posted without even a basic prior search for relevant sources, this seems to be a feature that is still under-used by many.

Some tipps and tricks about using Word in general, especially in conjunction with Trados. From various forum questions I assume, that there are a lot of people not knowing some basic functionalities of Word.
Using my own experience I could prepare a short presentation of some esential steps when translating with Word and Trados, especially if special characters are involved (as with Polish for example).

I would be interested in a (moderated) discussion on a controversial theme:
