Interesting. I post a question and then answer it by myself.
If email addresses are not verified when posting the question, I could use a fake address, meaning also that I don't get any notifications on replies.
If you answer your own question, you cannot close it and award points as you are not logged in. So what? I really don't see the point (literally) | | | Barbara Carrara Italy Local time: 07:40 Member (2008) English to Italian + ... Immediate action required | Jun 6, 2024 |

1.Why do their profiles often show thirty open questions and none closed?
They are not logged into profiles or authenticated on the site. In other words, these are visitors or users who posted a KudoZ question without a profile or being logged into a profile.
3.Why do they not respond to requests for more information?
4. Why do they not say thank you or award points?
Visitors who are not logged into a profile cannot interact in the KudoZ section.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Yana, and thanks for taking the time to reply.
If your reply has clarified what non-logged-in visitors, it also shows how unfair it is to keep allowing these 'freeloaders' to use and abuse the site.
I'd say it is time to discontinue this option entirely. And the sooner, the better.
Thank you.

Why are these people allowed to use KudoZ?
They're getting something for nothing, and people answer their questions without realizing that there will be no points, thanks, or other interaction from the asker.
If they are allowed to post questions, shouldn't these come with a warning? Simply showing their names in black isn't really sufficient.
I always thought they were not being very grateful or communicative. I didn't realize they weren't allowed to talk to us.
Thanks for the response, philgoddard.
Why are these people allowed to use KudoZ?
KudoZ is a free service that offers volunteer assistance. Non-logged-in visitors can post one question per day. All questions posted by non-logged-in visitors are checked by site staff before they become visible.
They're getting something for nothing, and people answer their questions without realizing that there will be no points, thanks, or other interaction from the asker.
As I mentioned, the KudoZ service is free, and there are no strict limitations right now, except for the one I mentioned before.
Non-logged-in visitors contribute by asking questions in different language pairs, including those less commonly used by logged-in users (with profiles).
The KudoZ question can be graded automatically based on the following FAQ, and the peer agrees.
Therefore, the more users participate in the peer grading section, the faster the question can be graded automatically, and it may be beneficial for some pairs to get more KudoZ points.
If they are allowed to post questions, shouldn't these come with a warning? Simply showing their names in black isn't really sufficient.
I agree with you that this part should be improved. I will bring this to the attention of the team, and we will work on further improvements.
Thanks!

You ask a question and then you have no way of contacting people trying to answer? That doesn't sound like a productive way to proceed.
Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of Kudoz? And be a pretty good reason to consign "questions asked by non-logged-in visitors" to the dustbin of history?
How many "non-logged-in visitors" read the rules before asking a question? And even if they do - how many would know how to give all the relevant information when asking a question?
Even some "pros" are not on speaking terms with the concept of "context", and a system for asking questions without any possibility of a dialogue is based on the expectation that any Joe public would know how to give the appropriate context when asking a question?
Allowing "questions by non-logged-in visitors" was possibly a good idea at the time when proz.com just started, but what's the point today? If someone wants free help from professional linguists, the least he/she could do is to make the effort to register an account, and log in before asking a question. | | | Pages in topic: < [1 2] | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » What exactly is a non-logged-in visitor?
