Dear members,

As asked for by the community previously, a preview option for KudoZ answers has just been implemented; you will see a "Preview answer" button before the "Submit answer" button in the answer form.

If you make changes to your answer all you need to do is hit the button again to update the preview before submitting the answer.

Any feedback you may have on this new feature is welcome. Thanks.

Problems with apostrophes Jul 22, 2008

Hello Jared,

I think the preview option is a great idea. Just one thing: there is a problem with the apostrophes. I've seen that problem before in the job quotes preview, just before each apostrophe, a slash sign is displayed in the preview panel.

Here's a screenshot:

Sorry... I don't like it... Jul 22, 2008

To me this is just a cosmetic thing, and it does not solve any problem I can think of, when there are a number of critical things to improve in Kudoz (for instance an easy way of asking the asker for more context, something we have to do in about 50% of the questions in Spanish).

I'm sorry, but I cannot see the use of a preview in Kudoz. :-/

Tomás,

I respectfully disagree - this feature solves exactly one problem, namely, that fewer answers will contain glaring errors (in terms of spelling, grammar or otherwise). As a KudoZ moderator, I was asked by many members/users in the past whether such a feature could be implemented, so there is a justification for it indeed.

My 2c,
Steffen

Fighting typos OK, but fighting bad questions and answers is critical Jul 22, 2008

Yes, probably, but the main matter here is whether both questions and answers contain enough information to make a good judgement on the matter. About 50% of questions (at least in Spanish as the target language) are lacking enough information to decide an answer, and when answers come, 80% of them just contain "My 2 cents", "That's it!", "Just like that!" as the sole explanation.

So honestly there are far more critical things to fix before working on a way of avoiding typos.

Nice paint on a rusty car Jul 22, 2008

To me, dedicating time to developing a preview in Kudoz is like putting some nice paint on a rusty car: no good unless you fix the car's body. Once the body is sound, paint makes sense.

But as seen in a recent forum topic (http://deu.proz.com/forum/kudoz/109300-enhancement_of_the_kudoz_system_by_discouraging_questions_without_context_a_proposal.html), there does not seem to be a lot of interest in fixing the main problem of Kudoz: undocumented, unexplained, quick questions, followed by a string of (naturally, as the question was not documented) undocumented, unexplained, quick answers. You can fix the spelling, but the rust is still there.
