Hi all,
hope your wisdom and knowledge will come in handy here....
I am having serious problems with my internet connection. For some
reason since yesterday it won't let me access some, totally unrelated,
websites. What I mean is that it works fine in most cases, but it won't
let me see, for example www.proz.com . I thought they
were down, but then I discovered that they were not, so I started
fiddling around. I even disconnected Zone Alarm, just in case, but
nothing changed.
Last night I phoned Telewest (I am in the UK) and they said there is a problem with my
proxy (??) so they had me open IE (I usually use Firefox), go to tools,
internet options, connections, LAN settings, they made me tick Proxy
server and add "webcache.blueyonder.co.uk" and port 8080. I have no idea
what means, but anyway things got better because I could access the
mysterious sites, however the proz site seems to be unable to remember
my password, meaning that as I move from one page to another it logs me
out and for this reason I cannot progress that far. They Also said that
probably some files in my computer have gone missing.
The day before yesterday I installed some patch for windows (automatic
update). I thought that this could have been the problem, so I did a
System Restore, but nothing has changed.
I thought it was a problem with the way the cookies have been set up,
but the settings seem to be fine and even tinkering with them makes no difference.
Other sites that use a password work perfectly fine.
Don't know what else to say, except that I have never seen anything like
this....
Any ideas??
Andrea
PS
I cannot post in the forum (because of the password problem), so I ask a friend to do it for me.
This means that if someone comes up with something good I will be able to contact them only privately.
Also, if you have some suggestions or questions or whatever, I would appreciate if you could send me
a private reply since I will not be getting e-mails from Proz regarding this post of "mine".

I had to phone "technical support" (inverted commas because to be honest it was techique and support-free) and they said it was my fault, etc, etc. In the end, after a lot of insisting, they discovered it was them all along.
In any case, all's well that ends well: now Proz is accessible!!
