Cannot launch Outlook

Hello.
I use Windows XP family edition and have MS Office Professional 2000 including Outlook (not express) installed.

I recently started experiencing problems launching Outlook--intermittently at first, but now I cannot launch it most of the time despite repeatedly restarting the machine.

Hello.
I use Windows XP family edition and have MS Office Professional 2000 including Outlook (not express) installed.

I recently started experiencing problems launching Outlook--intermittently at first, but now I cannot launch it most of the time despite repeatedly restarting the machine.

The program offers me the option of launching in "failure mode" (sorry if the terms are not correct--my version is in French). When I do so, I get an error message stating that the "display name" button is missing or contains an incorrect value.

The MS online crash service found no patches for me to install.

The next step was to uninstall and reinstall MS office and start from scratch.

Well, surprise, surprise...I cannot even uninstall it because apparently there is an "invalid" patch somewhere.

This seems like a pretty serious problem to me...not to mention that I am unable to use Outlook consistently... sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn't.

I don't even know where to begin in trying to resolve this issue...

Any tips are welcome!
