Could anybody please tell me whether Adobe Acrobat is also a Word Processing piece of software like Word or if it only is a program to convert files
into the pdf format?
Thank you in advance,
Francesco

No word processor, but more than a converter

...but it's more than "just" a converter. The full Acrobat version can be used to annotate documents among groups, and for commenting on such annotations.
That's only one example - why don't you have a look at www.adobe.com?

I was just wondering whether it was useful to purchase Adobe Acrobat.
As I have browsed through this Forum, I noticed Adobe Acrobat is indeed not what I thought it to be (A fullfledged Word Processing piece of software with scientific typesetting capabilities).
Thank you very much.
Francesco

If you are looking for such a software, LaTeX may be the solution. It is a free, open-source program, the most powerful word processor whose strongest side is mathematical formulae. You can download it (along with loads of supplementary packages) at www.ctan.org.
It takes some time to learn to use it, as (unlike Word) it is not a wysiwyg-type program. But it is not very difficult, you can find very good documentation - and it is really rewarding.
Best regards,
Attila

I already own and Use the MikTex distribution of LaTeX under Windows and
a WYSIWYG LaTeX Graphical Front End to LaTeX under Linux (LyX), but am looking for a free WYSIWYG client for LaTeX under Windows.

Francesco

Adobe Acrobat
