I would like to translate fiction, and I am interested - is it true that it is a low-paid job compared to technical translation? And what can be the rates implying big volumes?

I am a practicing translator from India. I have been a professor of English in Pune. I am interested in discussing the issue of freedom a translator can enjoy in literary translations. I have translated two autobiographies from Marathi into English and both have been published.

I've done one literary translation, and stories are my passion. Although I have done technical translations, especially insurance, I will die if it has to consume my professional life completely.

I have translated a Christian book and the notion is that when translation religious books we should not charge a lot. What are your thought on this?

It is my ambition to translate poetry and literature, as I have always enjoyed writing myself. Yet, I don't know how to establish myself as a literature translator, who to approach and where to find jobs. I guess it is a very difficult market for a novice, so every advice is appreciated.

I have translated a Philippine short story in English, a part of the first chapter of Night by Elie Wiesel, some poems by Filipino poets in English into Pangasinan, my native tongue. I would like to know the rules in the trade.

I have only translated song lyrics for my own pleasure (English - Bulgarian; Hungarian-Bulgarian, Russian-English). I'd like to hear how lyrics and fiction translation is working out for others because I wish I could work this for payment.

I am highly interested in translating novels an wish to connect with experts in the field. Have been doing some synopses from French-English-French for publishers. The pay is not worth the work and I don't know if it's the same when you deal with a whole book.
