******************** ABSTRACT:
The areas in which I have done most of my translating work are physical, mental and health sciences; pharmaceuticals, medicines and drugs; cosmetics; education and child development; international development, social sciences, and psychology; and food science.
My academic background includes university degrees in the social sciences, education, and special education. I specialized all nine years in international development. This formed the basis of my dissertation research and the subject matter for most of the university courses I taught. I have done coursework at the University of London and the International University in Geneva, Switzerland.
While studying child development, social psychology and social anthropology, I took a full complement of additional courses in physical and developmental anthropology which gave me a thorough grounding in physiology and human anatomy that I amplified and deepened by studying nutrition, health and food science over the past twenty years.
I am also a trained Professional Baker/LATTC: Cordon Bleu/CIA Program. Food science is one of my hobbies and I have done extensive translating for the wine and spirits industry.
I apply a systematic approach to all my work in academia, corporate marketing, technical writing, and translating. I approach the translation process along Six Sigma lines.

A NOTE ABOUT REVIEWING OTHER PEOPLE'S WORK
I do not accept any assignment that involves touching the work of a fellow translator, under any circumstances. I do not consider this to be part of long standing Best Practices in this profession.
The best translator is an educated expert. If the work needs further review after completion (and it should not, if it has been done expertly and thoroughly, by a qualified linguist), an independent, trained third party should conduct that review -- not another translator.
If translations are now carried out by clerical people or machines and the end users/clients have been trained to take the lowest bid in a reverse auction race to the bottom, then there is no need to hire an experienced, educated, professional expert for the work.
First and foremost, a translator must be an expert in one or more fields of study and in their native language. I am both.
