Source text - English Use membrane filters having a nominal pore size not greater than 0.45 μm whose effectiveness to retain micro-organisms has been established. Cellulose nitrate filters, for example, are used for aqueous, oily and weakly alcoholic solutions and cellulose acetate filters, for example, for strongly alcoholic solutions. Specially adapted filters may be needed for certain products, e.g. for antibiotics.
The technique described below assumes that membranes about 50 mm in diameter will be used. If filters of a different diameter are used the volumes of the dilutions and the washings should be adjusted accordingly. The filtration apparatus and membrane are sterilised by appropriate means. The apparatus is designed so that the solution to be examined can be introduced and filtered under aseptic conditions; it permits the aseptic removal of the membrane for transfer to the medium or it is suitable for carrying out the incubation after adding the medium to the apparatus itself.
Aqueous solutions. If appropriate, transfer a small quantity of a suitable, sterile diluent such as a 1 g/L neutral solution of meat or casein peptone pH 7.1 ± 0.2 onto the membrane in the apparatus and filter. The diluent may contain suitable neutralising substances and/or appropriate inactivating substances for example in the case of antibiotics.
Transfer the contents of the container or containers to be tested to the membrane or membranes, if necessary after diluting to the volume used in the method suitability test with the chosen sterile diluent but in any case using not less than the quantities of the product to be examined prescribed in Table 2.6.1.-2. Filter immediately. If the product has antimicrobial properties, wash the membrane not less than 3 times by filtering through it each time the volume of the chosen sterile diluent used in the method suitability test. Do not exceed a washing cycle of 5 times 100 mL per filter, even if during the method suitability test it has been demonstrated that such a cycle does not fully eliminate the antimicrobial activity. Transfer the whole membrane to the culture medium or cut it aseptically into 2 equal parts and transfer one half to each of 2 suitable media. Use the same volume of each medium as in the method suitability test. Alternatively, transfer the medium onto the membrane in the apparatus. Incubate the media for not less than 14 days.

Мембрану либо переносят в питательную среду целиком, либо делят в асептических условиях на две равные части и переносят в две подходящие среды. Каждую среду используют в том же объеме, что и при проверке пригодности метода. В качестве альтернативы допускается перенесение среды на мембрану в установке. Среды инкубируют не менее 14 дней.

Recombinant factor IX, also known as nonacog alfa among others, is a medication used to treat haemophilia B. Specifically it is used to treat and prevent bleeding. Its use improves quality of life. It is given by slow injection into a vein.
Common side effects include fever, cough, pain at the site of injection, and nausea. It may also result in allergic reactions including angioedema, hives, wheezing, or low blood pressure. Antibodies that block its ability to work may also develop. It is a manufactured version of the blood clotting enzyme factor IX, made by recombinant methods.
Recombinant versions were approved for medical use in the United States and Europe in 1997. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. In the United Kingdom 1,000 units costs the NHS about £600 as of 2023. This amount in the United States costs about 1,600 USD. There are also versions made from human plasma, but these are associated with risks of infection.
Recombinant factor IX formulations include:
• nonacog alfa (brand name BeneFix)
• albutrepenonacog alfa (brand name Idelvion)
• eftrenonacog alfa (brand name Alprolix)
• nonacog beta pegol (brand name Refixia)
Factor IX concentrates were developed from human plasma in the late 1960s. Recombinant versions came into medical use in 1997. In the 1950s and 1960s fresh frozen plasma (FFP) was often used.

Source text - German Das Dravet-Syndrom (schwere frühkindliche myoklonische Epilepsie) ist eine seltene genetisch bedingte Enzephalopathie mit schwer behandelbarer myoklonischer Epilepsie im frühen Kindesalter.
Das Dravet-Syndrom hat in 70–80 % der Fälle seine Ursache in einer zum Funktionsverlust führenden Mutation (Loss-of-Function-Mutation) des SCN1A-Gens. Dieses Gen kodiert die alpha-1-Einheit des spannungsabhängigen Natriumkanals. Dieser Ionenkanal wird vor allem auf hemmenden Interneuronen exprimiert, wodurch es zu einer verminderten Hemmung der Pyramidenzellen in der Hirnrinde kommt, was zu einem hyperexzitatorischen und epileptogenen Zustand führt. Mutationen dieses Gens erfolgen fast immer zufällig (Spontanmutation), sind also bei den Eltern nicht nachweisbar.
Als weitere mögliche Ursachen kommen Varianten der Gene GABRA1, GABRB3, GABRG2, SCN2A, SCN1B und STXBP1 in Betracht. Die genetische Heterogenität bedingt vermutlich auch, dass die Betroffenen unterschiedlich schwer erkranken.
Als Inzidenz wird ein Kind unter etwa 30.000 bis 40.000 Geburten angegeben. Jungen sind häufiger betroffen als Mädchen.
Seinen Namen hat das Syndrom von der französischen Psychiaterin und Epileptologin Charlotte Dravet, die das nach ihr benannte Syndrom im Jahr 1978 erstmals unter wissenschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten beschrieb und von anderen Epilepsiesyndromen abgrenzte. Bis 1992 wurden von ihr und ihren Kollegen 172 Fallbeispiele veröffentlicht.

A tall, herbaceous perennial with branching subterranean rootstock, from which arise a number of upright leafy shoots.
In medicine, it is used as an adjuvant to carminative drugs. It is official in the British and U.S. pharmacopoeias and used as an aromatic stimulant, carminative and flavoring agent.
Cardamom owes its aroma and therapeutic properties to the volatile oil present in the seeds. The major components of the oil are 1,8-cineole and terpinyl acetate. Volatile components of cardamom exhibit antimicrobial activity. The oil has anti-aflatoxin substances.
In herbal medicine, cardamom is chewed slowly to sweeten the breath, as aphrodisiac, to soothe digestion, stimulate the appetite, used against flatulence, colic and disorders of the body, often combined with purgatives to offset griping.
It is also reported to possess anti-inflammatory, analgesic and cardiotonic properties.
