L’avènement des califes Omeyyades provoqua une séparation de Vieux lettrés et érudits. Les califes étant les chefs d’une communauté religieuse furent contraints d’accepter que d’autres se spécialisent dans l’interprétation de la Loi et de sa jurisprudence. Ces spécialistes du fiqh avec les Ouléma deviendront vite des substituts du clergé inexistant en Islam. Leurs exercices engendreront inévitablement des tendances diverses. On compte habituellement 4 écoles distinctes, indûment appelées rites :

La llegada de los califas Omeyas provoca una separación de los viejos letrados y eruditos. Los califas, al ser los responsables de una comunidad religiosa, fueron obligados a aceptar que otros se especializasen en la interpretación de la Ley, así como de su jurisprudencia. Dichos especialistas en el fiqh, junto a los Ulemas, se convertirán rápidamente en los sustitutos del clero; inexistente en el Islam. Sus prácticas generarán inevitablemente tendencias diversas. Se suelen contar 4 escuelas diferentes, indebidamente llamadas “ritos”:
