Bio

I have over 30 years of full-time experience translating in
the interrelated fields of business, finance, law, and tax. I offer the
knowledge resulting from my extensive activity translating reports and other
documents covering the entire life cycle of corporations. That includes company
formation, corporate finance, governance, reporting and compliance, public
relations, marketing, the procurement and sales cycle, employee relations,
litigation, and dissolution. In turn, those broad categories of corporate
activity involve the following specialized knowledge, practice, and events:
accounting, accounting and financial fraud, banking and finance, bankruptcy and
insolvency proceedings, derivatives, financial reporting, IAS/IFRSs, IPOs and
prospectuses, corporate governance and Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance, privacy
code compliance, labor litigation, real estate and property contracts, national
and international tax law and audits, OECD transfer pricing guidelines, and
social responsibility reports. I have extensive experience translating
documents involving general law and commercial contracts, family law and
international child abduction, and international bribery. I have also
translated numerous art and architectural history publications, including
books, exhibition catalogues, art magazines, and CD ROM guides to the
Cathedrals of Milan and Florence.

My translation work is supported by the use of CAT tools,
and specifically Trados Studio 2021 and MemoQ 12.1 software.

I have occasionally collaborated with large teams of
translators on financially and politically delicate projects, including my
coordination of a team of 10 translators working on commission by the Italian
Prime Minister's Office (Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri) in 2002. That
project complemented my previous experience teaching English to an individual
member of the Italian Parliament and to top-ranking and middle and lower level
administrative staff at the Chamber of Deputies and Senate of the Republic of
Italy (1998-1999).

Originally from California, I now reside near Rome in Italy. I graduated from Encina High School in Sacramento, California, obtained a BA in Italian at the University of California at Berkeley, and completed the MA and PhD degrees in Italian literature at New York University. I taught English as a Mombusho English Fellow in Japanese public middle schools after college, Italian to undergraduate students at universities in New York City and New Jersey during and after graduate school, and English to actors and corporate and governmental employees in Rome. I started translating from Italian into English professionally while still a graduate student at New York University, and became a full-time freelance translator in New York in 1994, continuing that same work after my move to Rome in 1997.
