As a copywriter, I sometimes refer to myself as a 'Dutch-Dutch translator', because I translate the story my client is telling into easy-to-read text. However, I also do English-Dutch translations and vice versa. Translating from or into another language is a profession in itself, because it is more than just consulting a dictionary. Translating word for word often results in a strange text to say the least. Try translating 'it's raining cats and dogs' into English. Three to one that you have to come up with something else for that 'piping rain', like 'cats and dogs'....
The goal of business translation is to produce a text that is clear and pleasant to read for the reader. In fact, the reader should not notice at all that it is a translation. My gift for producing smoothly flowing texts comes in handy here. I translate texts from English and produce a pleasant Dutch text, keeping the reader and the purpose of the text in mind - just like when writing other texts. The same applies to translation from Dutch to English. If the target audience and the purpose of the text require an English text that feels English in all respects, it is advisable to have the translation post-edited by an English native speaker. I can include this in the assignment and quote.
Have you already had a translation made from another language into Dutch, but want it to feel truly Dutch? Then post-editing by a Dutch native speaker is a good idea. I can also provide this service for you. As with all other writing, I ask questions about the purpose and reader of the final text. I deliver a text in good Dutch that reads well.
Need a translation? Dutch-English, English-Dutch, German-Dutch or German-English? Feel free to call or e-mail me. I will be happy to tell you what I can do for you.
