Bio
5 things to know about me to understand why I enjoy working in the translation and linguistics field:

1. Starting from a young age, language related tasks were the ones I excelled at the most. If we're talking brain power, I think this part of my brain is the highest functioning and what helps me in delivering good quality translation.

2. Many people usually go through life not knowing what their purpose is, or what gives it meaning. I went through that experience and managed to turn the uncertainty into something fulfilling. Basically, I am now proud of my double major in academics; first in Business Administration in 2009, then in English Language and Literature in 2021. Accepting the uncertainty empowered me with a diverse experience that I can effectively channel into providing my clients with precise translations for their unique language requirements.

3. Since I was born in Saudi Arabia and lived there for the first 10 years, I have been quite observant of the cultural nuances between different societies from a very young age. When my family would travel back to Egypt on summer vacations, my relatives used to play the dialect game with me, and we all enjoyed it quite a lot. And as a typical millennial being exposed to Western culture through Hollywood's rich entertainment output, I became motivated later in life to work in the translation field as a means for bridging the gap between Eastern and Western cultures through focusing on and translating the core values of each side.

4. Ever since I started working as a freelance English <> Arabic translator in 2014, each task I completed gave me a sense of satisfaction from learning something new, whether related to linguistics or the specific information in the source text. I believe the accumulation of these experiences is what helps me in catering to my clients' specific requirements as well as developing new skills efficiently and effectively.

5. The rapid evolution in translation technology is quite the test for any translator nowadays. It becomes a question of shifting lanes again and again, or committing to the course till the end, if there is any. I would choose the latter by continuing to work and developing my skills in the specific genres in which I have a competitive advantage. I initially started my career as freelance translator by doing subtitles work in diverse genres, such as: general translation, risk management procedures, educational videos, and entertainment videos. Then, after obtaining my second bachelor's degree, I worked extensively for two years on e-commerce content. I also had some experience in translating games, and most recently applied my double major skills in translating investment education videos. Last but not the least, I quite enjoyed translating religious videos from Arabic to English with a very unique client who encouraged me to tap into a new genre closely related to my cultural upbringing through religious translation.
