Eiye, Black Axe, Vikings, Black cats, Supreme EyeMaphite, sono nomi di gruppi criminali con i quali gli inquirenti italiani hanno sempre più familiarità. Nati in Nigeria, da confraternite universitarie, i clan sono oggi agguerriti sia in patria che all’estero (sono attivi anche in Spagna): droga, prostituzione, traffico di esseri umani, i sodalizi criminali riescono ad inserirsi in molti paesi in tutti e cinque i continenti. Ovviamente non è da meno l’Italia, anzi: da nord a sud, i gruppi nigeriani creano sempre più grattacapi e sono al centro di numerose inchieste giudiziarie e di operazioni delle forze dell’ordine.
E la mafia nigeriana, per struttura e livello di affari, ha incredibili somiglianze con le altre mafie nazionali più conosciute nel mondo. Esistono clan differenti, con tanto di segni distintivi e rituali di accesso per i novelli affiliati. Esistono gerarchie ben definite, pretese di fedeltà che se disattese vengono punite con la morte, in Nigeria è forte anche il livello di controllo del territorio. Quando ancora i gruppi criminali sono confinati all’interno dei campus universitari, studenti o professori considerati nemici sono bersaglio di faide ed intimidazioni. Esistono quindi forti assonanze tra le mafie italiane e quelle nigeriane, anzi, sia ha la sensazione che queste ultime stiano prendendo il sopravvento anche i virtù di ripetute brillanti operazioni di polizia che, negli anni, hanno indebolito e disarticolato i sodalizi criminali nazionali.

Originating in Nigeria, from university confraternities, these clans are now well-established both at home and abroad (they also operate in Spain): drugs, prostitution, human trafficking, these organised crime groups manage to penetrate many countries on all five continents.
Obviously, Italy is no exception; in fact, from North to South, Nigerian gangs are causing growing concern and are at the centre of numerous criminal investigations and law enforcement operations.
Because of its structure and turnover, the Nigerian mafia has incredible similarities with the other well-known national mafia organisations in the world. Different clans exist, each with its own distinctive features and initiation rituals for new members. Well-defined hierarchies exist, loyalty demands that if not met, will be punished with death. In Nigeria, the degree of control over the territory is also significant. When criminal gangs are still confined within university campuses, students or professors, regarded as enemies, become the targets of feuds and intimidation.
There are therefore strong similarities between the Italian and Nigerian mafias; indeed, it seems that the latter are gaining the upper hand also as a result of repeated successful police operations that, over the years, have weakened and dismantled the national criminal organisations.
