Bio
My name is Gabriela, and I'm a graduate from the Chinese Translation and Interpretation B.A of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, with 2 years of previous work experience as a freelance translator for an e-Commerce company. Throughout my BA in Translation, I enhanced my linguistics knowledge and acquired further and new experience in technical, professional, literary and audiovisual translation. Since graduating, I've been mostly working as a video game translator.
As a practitioner and scholar of this art and its theory, I aim to contribute for the creation and connection of the worlds that words, expressions, and meanings build, by using my creative and technical skills the best I can, while also learning and improving in the process. I aspire to constantly refine my understanding of cultures and languages that I, directly or indirectly, work with, in order to reach and ensure the high-quality standards of each translation. I'd also like to continue to research, learn, discover, and write about translation theory, as well as other fields that intersect with translation and the translator, like the translation of not so studied genres and forms of entertainment, or the psychology of translation.
Even though most of my main interests and passions belong inside the entertainment industry (video games, films and series, light novels, comics, manhua, and donghua), and I'm deeply interested in opportunities that will allow me to expand experience and expertise when it comes to projects related to those areas, I'm also open to work and use my skills and knowledge for other different types of projects and challenges.
