3 May. Bistritz.—Left Munich at 8:35 P. M., on 1st May, arriving at Vienna early next morning; should have arrived at 6:46, but train was an hour late. Buda-Pesth seems a wonderful place, from the glimpse which I got of it from the train and the little I could walk through the streets. I feared to go very far from the station, as we had arrived late and would start as near the correct time as possible. The impression I had was that we were leaving the West and entering the East; the most western of splendid bridges over the Danube, which is here of noble width and depth, took us among the traditions of Turkish rule.

3مئی۔ بسٹرٹز۔ -- یکم مئی کو شام 8:35 بجے میونخ سے روانہ ہوا، اگلی صبح ویانا پہنچا؛ پہنچنا 6:46 پر چاہیے تھا لیکن ٹرین ایک گھنٹہ لیٹ تھی۔ بڈاپسٹ ایک شاندار جگہ معلوم ہوتی ہے، اس جھلک سے جو میں نے ٹرین سے اور گلیوں میں تھوڑی بہت چہل قدمی سے حاصل کی۔ مجھے سٹیشن سے بہت دور جانے کا اندیشہ تھا کیونکہ ہم دیر سے پہنچے تھے اور جتنا ممکن ہو سکے صحیح وقت کے قریب آغاز کیا۔ میرا تاثر یہ تھا کہ ہم مغرب چھوڑ کر مشرق میں داخل ہو رہے ہیں؛ ڈینیوب پر شاندار پلوں میں سے سب سے زیادہ مغربی پل، جو یہاں عظیم الشان چوڑائی اور گہرائی کا حامل ہے، ہمیں ترک حکمرانی کے تمدن میں لے گیا۔
