Bio
Hi!
I'm Kai, I’m a Dutch translator and interpreter, with over 15 years of experience and I've been translating since my teenage years.
Having lived most of my life in East and West Africa, I have a deep understanding of the cultures and languages of the African continent. I’m fluent in 2 major languages of the continent - Hausa and Swahili - as well as French, English, and Dutch,
I graduated with distinction from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), in London with a first-class BA in Swahili and Development Studies. Since then I've worked with a wide range of clients, including international brands, media companies, and law firms, translating for documentaries, marketing materials, website content, legal documents, and more. In addition to my translation and interpreting work, I also consult with businesses and organizations on African market research, data collection, and localization. I'm passionate about using my skills to help businesses and organizations connect with the African continent.
For the last 5 years, I've been working with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Niger, Nigeria, and Congo, using my language skills to assist victims of violence and conflict, and I've learned a great deal about the challenges facing people in these countries.
I'm now taking a break from the fieldwork and opening up to interesting freelance opportunities that will challenge me and allow me to grow.
Feel free to contact me regarding potential projects, collaborations, or if you just want to connect!
