Source text - French Les côtes de la Manche regorgent d’hôtels et il est souvent difficile de faire un choix parmi toutes ces bonnes adresses. Aujourd’hui, nous vous présentons l’hôtel-restaurant X. Situé à seulement quelques kilomètres de Cherbourg, il a été notre étape coup de cœur lors de notre escapade en Normandie !
Un hôtel historique à la décoration contemporaine et design
Construit au XIXème siècle et faisant face à la mer, on raconte que de grands noms tels que Claude Monet, Edith Piaf ou encore Françoise Sagan y ont séjourné.
Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été charmés par la décoration design, claire et très épurée qui contraste agréablement avec le décor sauvage autour de l’hôtel. Au milieu des landes et avec la mer en face de nous, on se croirait en Irlande !
Nous avons séjourné dans une magnifique suite, décorée avec goût et avec une vue directe sur la mer. Allongés sur le lit, nous avions vue sur la plage. Avec la fenêtre ouverte, nous entendions même le bruit reposant des vagues, ajoutant au sentiment de calme et de bien être que dégage le lieu.
Un repas délicieux face à la mer
Le soir, nous avons diné au restaurant du X géré par le chef Hervé Roy, un grand nom de la gastronomie iodée. Nous nous sommes assis face à la mer et avons profité de la vue pendant toute la soirée.
En entrée, nous avons dégusté des rillettes de maquereaux ainsi que du saumon de Cherbourg, fumé sur place. Une excellente entrée pour échauffer nos papilles !
Translation - English The coast of the English Channel is heaving with hotels and it is often difficult to choose between its many marvellous places to stay.
Today, we will introduce you to Hôtel Restaurant X. Located just a few kilometres from Cherbourg, it was our favourite stopover during our trip to Normandy!
A historic hotel with contemporary designer décor
The sea-facing property, which was built in the nineteenth century, is rumoured to have played host to well-known personalities such as Claude Monet, Edith Piaf and even Françoise Sagan.
Upon our arrival, we were enchanted by the bright, minimalist designer décor, which contrasts nicely with the wild landscape that surrounds the hotel. Among the heaths, with the sea in front of us, we could easily have been in Ireland!
We stayed in a wonderful suite which was tastefully decorated and had an unobstructed view of the sea. Lying in bed, we could see the beach. With the window open, we could even hear the soothing sounds of the waves, further adding to the overall sense of calm and comfort that the setting provides.
A delicious meal by the sea
In the evening, we dined at Hôtel Restaurant X's on-site restaurant, which is managed by Chef Hervé Roy. He is renowned for his take on the tastes of the sea. We sat facing the sea and enjoyed the views all evening long.
For our starters, we had the mackerel and Cherbourg salmon rillettes. The salmon was smoked in-house. An excellent starter to tantalise our taste buds!
