The organ of Corti in the cochlear duct is exquisitely designed for its role in auditory sensation. Lying on the basilar membrane, it is composed of hair cells, which have a complex organization, with several types of columnar supporting cells. Hair cells are arranged segmentally in two groups on the sides of an inner tunnel. A group of typically rounded inner hair cells is in one row; a group of outer hairs
cells, usually more cylindrical, forms three rows. Ultrastructural criteria identify two
different types of hair cells (I and II). Hair cells ar polarized and bear apical stereocilia that project into the lumen of the endolymph-filled cochlear duct. Bases of hair cells are embedded 7in recesses formed by neighboring supporting cells that are rich in ytoskeletal components.
Synapsing with these bases are afferent and efferent nerve terminals of cranial nerve
VIII. Also, some supporting cells at the outer part of the organ of Corti produce the tectorial membrane, into which tips of stereocilia of the tallest outer hair cells project. The tectorial membrane, a gelatinous, resilient cuticular sheet
that extends over hair cells, is made of glycoprotein in which are embedded 4-nm
microfilaments made of a protein that resembles keratin. Endolymph in the cochlear duct is like intracellular fluid, but perilymph in adjacent scalae vestibuli and tympani is chemically more similar to extracellular or cerebrospinal fluid.

cocleare ripieno di endolinfa. Le basi di queste cellule si trovano inserite nei solchi formati dalle cellule di sostegno circostanti, ricche di componenti citoscheletriche. Tali basi sono connesse tramite sinapsi con le terminazioni
nervose afferenti ed efferenti dell’VIII nervo cranico. Inoltre, alcune cellule di sostegno, situate nella porzione esterna dell’organo del Corti, vanno a formare la membrana tectoria, all’interno della quale protrudono le estremità
delle stereociglia delle cellule ciliate esterne più lunghe. La membrana tectoria, una lamina cuticolare resistente e gelatinosa, che si estende al di sopra delle cellule ciliate, è costituita da glicoproteine in cui si trovano immersi microfilamenti della lunghezza di 4 nm, formati da una proteina simile alla cheratina. L’endolinfa presente nel dotto cocleare è simile al liquido intracellulare, mentre la perilinfa contenuta nelle scale vestibolare e timpanica adiacenti, dal punto di vista chimico, è più simile al liquido extracellulare o al liquor.

Source text - English Apple said it was working to patch a vulnerability that hackers could use to break into the company's popular iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch gadgets. Engineers at the California firm are fixing a weakness pointed out by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). "Apple takes security very seriously," Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said. "We are aware of this reported issue and developing a fix that will be available in an upcoming software update," she said. BSI warned this week of a flaw that would let hackers infiltrate Apple mobile devices by duping users into opening PDF document files booby-trapped with malicious computer code. Although no attacks have been observed, hackers are likely to try to exploit the weakness, according to a posting on the agency's website. Possible "attack scenarios for cyber-criminals" include accessing passwords, email messages, contact lists, or built-in cameras and eavesdropping on phone conversations or getting location information, according to BSI.
