When you have malaria, the main symptoms will be fever. But you may have one or more of the following symptoms (only mention a couple of them!!):
• Shivering
• Sweat
• Headache
• Nausea
• Vomit
• Weakness
• Fatigue and lack of appetite
• Fast breath;
• Joint and muscle pain in adults
KEY MESSAGE: As soon as you develop any of these symptoms, you must go to the hospital or PHCC/PHCU quickly! The longer you wait, the more the malaria collects in your blood. If there is too much malaria in your blood, you may have to be admitted.
If malaria is not treated promptly, your symptoms become more dangerous, and you will have:
• Convulsions
• Unconsciousness
• Very irritable
• High fever
• Severe Diarrhoea
• Constant vomiting
KEY MESSAGE: When you have these symptoms, your life is in danger.
Do not wait to have these symptoms. When you have malaria, you should immediately seek medical assistance.
Translation - French Les symptômes du paludisme
Lorsque vous avez le paludisme, le principal symptôme est la fièvre. Mais vous pouvez avoir un ou plusieurs des symptômes suivants (liste non exhaustive !) :
• frissonnement ;
• sueur ;
• céphalée ;
• nausée ;
• vomissement ;
• asthénie ;
• épuisement et manque d'appétit ;
• respiration rapide ;
• douleurs articulaires et musculaires chez l'adulte.
À RETENIR : dès l'apparition de l'un de ces symptômes, rendez-vous rapidement à l'hôpital ou dans une unité ou un centre de santé primaire rapidement. Plus vous attendez, plus le parasite du paludisme s'accumule dans votre sang. Si votre sang est trop infecté, vous pourriez être hospitalisé.
Si le paludisme n'est pas traité rapidement, les symptômes deviennent plus dangereux, et vous souffrirez de :
• convulsions ;
• perte de connaissance ;
• grande irritabilité ;
• forte fièvre ;
• diarrhée aiguë ;
• vomissements permanents.
À RETENIR : lorsque vous avez ces symptômes, votre vie est en danger.
N'attendez pas d'avoir ces symptômes. Lorsque vous avez le paludisme, consultez immédiatement un médecin.
