Jog the machine until the tucker table just begins forward motion.
DISCONNECT AND LOCKOUT POWER TO THE MACHINE AT THIS TIME.
Set the bun guides approximately eight (8) inches apart.
Measure inside of the bun guide rails to an intersection point with the tuckers.
This intersection point corresponds to the center of the tucker mounting nut.
(Figure 3) Position an infeed flight with the leading edge at 17 inches from the intersect point (for 24” or 27” flight spacing) or 18-20” (for 29” flight spacing).
If an unusually long product is bagged, this dimension can be increased.
Jog the machine until the infeed flight is moving through the deadplate.
A top transfer pusher should be positioned just ahead of the flight.
If a top transfer pusher is not in the correct position, remove the master link and drive chain to the top transfer.
Move the top transfer chain until a top transfer pusher is in the correct position and reinstall the drive chain and master link in the top transfer drive chain.
This method will time the tuckers, infeed, and top transfer.
To properly time the stacker, jog the machine until any infeed flight is 17 inches (for 24” or 27” flight spacing) or 21” (for 29” flight spacing) from the bun stop rail.
(Figure 5) At this point, the stacker should be fully extended.
(This setting can also be increased for an unusually long product.)
The indexer timing should be set to allow the product to reach the bun stop rail before side motion begins.
The product on flighted side of the infeed should not be contacted by the preceding flight.
In other words when the product is deposited on the stacker grid bars, the infeed flight should be past the product length – and generally about the stop rail.
If the product to be timed is similar to another product (size, weight and bake) then the timing values used for that product will be a good starting point for the new product.
If no values are available or this is an entirely new application then start with the following values:

Air Circuit Reset 350 (For machines with Reset)
After stacker has been mechanically timed and encoder set to zero use the encoder value when stacker is fully extended over the infeed.
Using the same stipulations above with the stacker retracted use the encoder value.
Using one package group of product in the indexer:
A. Align the bun guides to accommodate the product arrangement required.
(The lane guides must be set from center and match requirements of the slicer).
B. Set the brake position so that when the brake pad comes down, it rests on the next bun and does not impede the forward motion of the buns being released.
Adjustment of the Brake is accomplished by simply moving the side lever to release the brake lock and sliding the brake assembly forward or back.
Once the brake is in the correct location, move the side lever back to the lock position.
C. Place one item of the package group on the indexer, in the lane closest to the operator.
Press the cycle button and observe the position of the product when it travels all the way into the infeed of the bagger.
When the product travels down the decline (just before the infeed) the leading edge of the product should arrive just momentarily after the infeed flight fingers appear through the decline dead plate.
The product group is to be timed as closely behind the infeed flight as possible, but not be touched by the flight fingers.
The “Indexer Timing” program setting controls this positioning.
To release the product to arrive at the decline later, increase the "Indexer Timing" value.
Conversely, to allow the product to reach the infeed sooner, decrease the "Indexer Timing" value (see the section on controls for more information).
When the machine reaches the position specified by the "Indexer Timing" value, the indexer gate is raised and the indexer brake is applied (lowered).
Note that when the "Indexer Timing" value is changed, the "Indexer Brake (up)" and "Indexer Gate (close)" values must be changed as well.
D. Press and hold the cycle button (located on the operator station at the indexer) to observe the reaction.
If the gate closes too soon, then add more value to the "Indexer Gate (close)" setting in the controller.
To shorten the amount of time the gate stays open, decrease the value.
The gate should close just after the last product in the group exits.
If the Brake is not in the right location, adjust it.
Now record the speed of the machine in the setup chart.
Record in pencil the gate settings and the brake position.
The next step is the stacker function.
The values of the stacker should be verified by jogging the machine to a point where the stacker is fully retracted.
At this point observe the encoder value (see controls section for instructions).
This should be the starting value for the stacker down function.
Then jog the machine to the fully extended stacker position.
The encoder value again should be assigned as the stacker up value (approximately 180º from the other value).
The speed of packaging determines the best values for stacker timing.
In faster applications the stacker value may be lower to come down sooner and also to compensate for the rapid motion, the stacker up value may also be decreased.
If problems are encountered with the stacker pusher plate dropping onto the product when the machine is stopped or the bag table cycles (on machines that are equipped with automatic bag tables), then the "Tucker Position" setting needs to be adjusted.
The next step is to assign values for the air blast.
Jog the machine to its fully retracted tucker position.
Just as the tuckers come all the way back observe the encoder position (see control instructions) this is the Air blast On setting.
Add 92 to this value for the Air Blast Off setting.
For machines with Air Reset:
Add 10 to the Air Blast Off setting for the Air Reset value.
Air Reset should always be 10 degrees after the Air Blast Off setting.
The air blast settings can be adjusted for different packages.
For example, products running at higher speeds may have the air setting come on earlier; short bags may not require the full duration of the initial setting, and heavy mill bags may require earlier inflation.
These are all value judgments that will be reviewed at installation with the UBE Serviceman and the Bakery Engineer.
When adding new products, test runs should be done to fine tune this area as well as other settings.
The "Tucker Position" timing value is used to stop the machine in a convenient position when a non-critical stop is required.
A non-critical stop can occur when the bag supply runs out, when the bag table is going to cycle (on machines that are equipped with automatic bag tables), or when interlocked with another machine such as a tier.
The value is set to the point when the tucker table is in its fully retracted position allowing the current product cycle to complete before the bagger is stopped.
The “Tucker Position” value does not change from product to product.
It will remain constant for all product programs.
The "Tucker Position" setting is also related to other timing values.
For example, if the "Tucker Position" value is in the middle of an indexer release, a cripple can result.
If the “Tucker Position” value is set too close to one of the stacker values and a non-critical stop occurs, it could cause the stacker pusher plate to drop down on the product or not push it all the way onto the grid bars.
At high speeds, to make up for the time it takes for the stacker pusher air cylinder to travel up or down, the timing values controlling this motion are actually set slightly ahead of where the movement is to occur.
When the machine is stopped suddenly, these settings can cause the stacker pusher to drop or rise ahead of where they should.
The simple solution is to find a "Tucker Position" value that will stop the machine far enough away from either stacker value and still allow the current cycle to complete.
"ZEROING" THE ENCODER ON THE UBE AUTOLOAD with PanelView
This procedure should only be done after the machine has been mechanically timed.
Refer to the Autoload timing instructions for details.
Locate the encoder.
It is located on the non-operator side, behind the guard immediately downstream from the main electrical enclosure (under the tucker table).
The encoder is mounted to the top of a gearbox and chained to the drive shaft with #35 chain.
The next step requires the machine to operate without one of the guards installed.
Stay clear of the drive components when performing the next step!
Jog the machine, noting the direction the encoder turns.
Stop the machine on the timing marks located on the top transfer, infeed and stacker.
(They should all be lined up together).
Activate the emergency stop button!!
Loosen the two set screws on the encoder sprocket.
Use a large, flat blade screwdriver in the end of the encoder sleeve to turn the encoder slowly one full rotation, in the normal direction of travel.
Check to make sure the encoder value increases as the encoder is turned.
Locate the "ENCODER POSITION" value shown on the PanelView main menu screen.
Slowly turn the encoder in the normal direction until the encoder value indicates "0. This is the encoder "zero" position.
Tighten the set screws on the encoder sprocket.
Replace the guard, release the emergency stop button, and jog the machine until the timing marks line up again.
Check to make sure the "ENCODER POSITION" on the PanelView is still set at "0".
If not, repeat steps 2-6 above.
