I have been a translator in Seattle since 1991, after working in technical positions at Amazon.com and Microsoft. Although I work mainly in technical, medical, and legal subject matter, my many years of diverse experience include everything from birth certificates to literature.

Given global currency volatility at the moment, I am willing to meet competitive rates in your country! Please be sure to include your budget range when contacting me.

• I’m a US citizen, which can be handy for certain kinds of jobs relating to US immigration, Green Cards, education, international exchanges, etc.
  
• Are you Canadian? I did a certificate in translation from Toronto and routinely translate educational documents and vital records from Québec, New Brunswick, and Ontario specifically for use in the United States (as well as McGill diplomas from Latin).
  
  
• Need a certification? I can provide a certified translation. A US translator’s certification can sometimes be helpful especially for purposes related to immigration and university admissions or Green Card applications.
  
  
• Trying to enroll in a North American school or university? I translate transcripts and diplomas all the time to make it easier for you get credit for what you’ve studied so far. Is your diploma in Latin? Usually your university will offer translations of Latin diplomas for free, but if you need an independent certified translation of a Latin diploma, I can help.
  
  
• I’m a freelancer, and I love working with other freelancers, individuals, microbusinesses, and small businesses! Talk to me about your needs, and we can develop short- and long-term strategies to get your material translated.

I have published several literary translations, including the Morgue Drawer series by German crime fiction author Jutta Profijt and the Louise Rick series by Danish crime fiction author Sara Blædel. My 2008 translation of Mirjam Pressler’s Let Sleeping Dogs Lie (Boyds Mill Press/Front Street Books) won a 2008 Sydney Taylor Book Award. I am a listed translator with the Nederlands Letterenfonds (Dutch Foundation for Literature), and my previous Danish translations have earned subsidies from the Statens Kunstfond (Danish Arts Foundation). I am a previous resident of Cologne/Köln and Münster, Germany, and Tours, France. I've traveled extensively in Europe and Canada and am now based in Seattle. My credentials include the Certificate in Translation from the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies (2008), a PhC (1994) and an MA (1992) in Germanics from the University of Washington (I focused on diachronic Germanic syntax, with research, presentations, and publications that include the Nordic languages and Dutch), and dual BAs in German and French from Michigan State University (both 1991). I also passed the ATA German-to-English accreditation (i.e., certification) examination in 2001, although I do not keep this current. Please request my CV to get more information about me.
