Translating professionally since 1992, my focus is to strike a balance between accuracy and readability. The study of English literature and oratory over many years informs our sense of readability...

Bio
Shannon Ware was born in the desert farming community of Perris, California. He was raised in and around Riverside, California, attending Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley. During this time Shannon was actively involved in programming projects on the Commodore 64, TRS 80, Apple II and Apple Macintosh platforms, posting on WWIII message boards, and generally having a good time.

Shannon received the bulk of his early computer education from his grandmother, Margueritte Brown, who retired as a FORTRAN programmer from A.A. Webb and Associates, Riverside, California.

Toward the end of high school, the focus of Shannon's interests shifted from computers to Japanese. Shannon received a bachelor's degree in Japanese Language and Literature from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He also spent a year at the Japanese Language and Culture Institute of the University of Hokkaido in Sapporo, Japan. While in Sapporo, Shannon worked as a game translation and playtesting contractor for Hudson Soft.

Following university, Shannon began to work actively in New York City as both a translation contractor for Japanese technical documents, and as a bilingual production assistant for television and film. He quickly moved his freelance translation operation to Tulsa, Oklahoma. There it flourished until he joined Rheem Manufacturing Company in Fort, Smith, Arkansas, as a staff interpreter and increasingly tech-savvy Marketing Communications Specialist.

It was at this time that Shannon returned to his computing roots, rapidly updating his programming and computer graphics skills after so long a hiatus. Since leaving Rheem, he has been busy as a web applications developer, web designer, PC support technician, technical writer and Japanese technical documents translator.

Most recently, Shannon has worked full time as a Siebel QA Tester for Glaxo SmithKline. For 1 1/2 years in this role, Shannon has not only provided translation, application support and testing in Japanese, but has also provided application testing and language support in Korean, Chinese, Turkish, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
