Hi,
I have a problem installing Trados 2007 Freelance with SP2 on a new desktop.
When I try to install, I get the message
Error 1606 Could not access network location
Microsoft Word STARTUP
I have had this problem before when I tried to install the SP2 on a laptop with Vista. The support dept of SDL Trados could not help me (I seemed to be the only one...) and I finally had to re-install the whole laptop including the OS.

But this desktop comes straight from the manufacturer with Vista installed. I also installed Office 2007.
Anyone out there who experienced the same problem and has a solution?

I'm having exactly the same problem, only I have Office 2003. So you are not the only one. But I have no solution yet.

Hi Ilona,
Sorry to hear that.
I still don't have a solution. The helpdesk of SDL Trados decided they can not help me. I boutgh a program to fix errors, but it did not work. And now the supplier of that program is providing me daily with solutions, but none of them help.
It's crazy.
Hopefully there will be a solution soon.
If there is, I will let you know.

Please make sure that you have administrative rights in Windows Vista and then try the solution from this article:

Yes, that was suggested by your colleagues as well, and I have the proper rights. They suggested quite a few possibilities but none of them helped.

Finally I hired a company to solve the problem for me. A young guy (really a computer nerd) came and spent 3 hours working on it. Finally he had it working.... But when I asked him what he did, he could not give a clear answer.....
But then this summer I had to re-install my Dell computer for some other reason. Right....I was fearing to have the same problem again. But this time I got Trados installed without any problem.....

No, Gareth, it's not the way...
I imagine, another time, the SDL programmers don't take in account the Vista permission stuff.
I suppose they UAC is enabled and the access rights are not sufficient for the setup program despite of the user's administrative rights.

That was just what I was thinking about. Copy the Trados8 Word template file to the Startup folder you have found. However, this will only help if the rest of Trados files have installed correctly.

I had some correspondence with SDL Trados support earlier in the year and followed their instructions, which included deactivating User Account Control, running the install program as administrator and running a program they sent me to fix a registry key. None of this made any diffrence and their last suggestion was
"Please have a look at these articles. It seems to be a vista specific problem.

I have a solution for Vista users:
Please go Run -> Regedit.exe
and try to change the name of
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
Don't forget to export it first!... See more I have a solution for Vista users:
