Dear Conference participants,

I thought I might not be the only one interested in finding good accommodation for the Conference. So feel free to say what you are looking for and I'm sure our Polish colleagues will offer us good advice.

Personally, I'm looking for a cheap guest house with a parking lot, not necessarily very close to the hotel where the Conference will take place.

TIA,
Dan

My wife's friends used to stay in some places during their post-diplomma studies. The best recommendation is

There are also a dirty cheap youth hostel which was said to be decent.

Apartments Oct 6, 2005

Last year I rented a very cosy flat in Cracow
at a reasonable price. They're centrally located, though,
no parking lot. And no Internet connection

See you in Cracow,
Paola

All appartments have excellent locations
I had an opportunity to check that before I moved to Krakow.

Professors' House of Jagellonian University Oct 6, 2005

Hi, in mid-September 2005 I was working at a metals conference in Krakow and we were staying at the Professors' House of the Jagellonian University:

Hi, in mid-September 2005 I was working at a metals conference in Krakow and we were staying at the Professors' House of the Jagellonian University:

http://www.adm.uj.edu.pl/dg/bursa/index_en.htm

University Hotel
Bursa im. S.Pigonia Bursa im. S.Pigonia
7a Garbarska St.
Tel./fax: + 48 12 422 67 66

Can't tell you that this was a great place - but it was OK.

Pros:

- Good location (around the corner from Karmelitska str., 5-10 minutes' walk from the university.
- Fairly large rooms
- Table & comfortable chair in room - can work on your laptop OK
- Internet in the hotel (there was a weak promise of wi-fi that never materialized plus there was a "Computer room" downstairs - think room 101 or 110...)

Cons:

- Cold rooms - and that was mid-September not late November! There was a warning signal: a sign on the wall in the room saying: "It is prohibited to use electric heaters in the room", so this seems to be a problem encountered before

- Shabby (but functioning) furniture & bathroom fixtures - but again, this wasn't exactly the Hilton...

They also have a guesthouse described on the same website.

Prices are also listed on the website - I think they have raised the prices for Oct-Nov period.

I think this place may be more expensive than some other places - but hey, it's ancient (what in Krakow isn't? and it overlooks the quiet garden of a Carmelite convent...

So do I recommend it? Guess I would recommend you to see the web site - and decide for yourself. I feel this is an "upper-budget" class of accommodation - more expensive than regular hostels, less expensive than international hotel chains.

Good luck and great lodging!

other options for accomodation Oct 6, 2005

Hey!
I have been living in Kraków since January and for my many visits I had to find out places. Here are some ideas:
1) krakstudios.com (+48 504 084 824), where you should have studios for about 140 zlotys
2) "Janezim" in Ul. Karmerlicka, 11 (+48 12 429 11 18, where there are apartments (new ones) for about 220 zlotys
And many other places - everything on the internet!
Don't hesitate to contact me personally if you need any help with that!! I'm kind of an expert o

PAY ATTENTION TO: Professors' House - DANGER Oct 6, 2005

I was once at Professors' House of Jagellonian University
at the reception they told to me: "it's possibile to
reserve the room, BUT if the staff of university need
a room because the organize for example some meetings,
they have right to DELETE all reservation, to use the
rooms for official guest of university".

It's sounds ABSURD, but these are the word of men
which work in the reception! I just repeat, to be aware..

Daniele

need help in finding accommodation Oct 26, 2005

We are a larger group and we were thinking about staying in a youth hostel. However, before making a reservation, we would like to know about the conditions offered by hostels in Krakow (we found two of them so far). Does anyone have any experience with them or would anyone in Krakow be so kind to check them out for us?

Nice flats in central Cracow Nov 8, 2005

Unfortunately, I won't have the opportunity to enjoy them myself, due to personal reasons, but I had found some very nice flats with reasonable rates in Central Cracow at : http://krakow-hotel-guide.com/
The staff is very responsive and helpful, hope someone may find it useful.
