Translation has been my dedicated occupation for over 50 years. However, several years ago I earned a certificate in landscape design and I do do some designs on the side. I also have a volunteer job with my homeowners association. | | |

When I started translating, I still had a job in IT, but after a year I realised that I'd burn out quickly if I continued to do both, so I had to decide to quit one of the two. | | |

I have been working as a full-time translator for the last 30 years after a few years part-time when I did hold another job. | | |
I teach a few hours of EFL to research staff at the local university, which I greatly enjoy as it means I get to be with people and not just if front of a screen. Also great for contacts as I exclusively translate academic reaearch. | |

I used to, until 2013, in the belief that working in big companies would be more profitable and better for my carreer than freelancing.
It took me 20 years to realize the huge mistake this beilef represents. I'd probably be rich today if I had chosen to stop working for third parties and become a freelancer 10 years earlier. | | |

Yes, I have a small coffee roastery, which is basically only myselt at the moment as I started last year. But it does not take much of my time as I roast to order and once a week. | | |
