Hello Forum colleagues,

I am working with SDL Trados Studio 2011 on a Mac running Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7. I have Microsoft Office Suite 2008 for Mac installed on the Mac side, and so far have been able to open .DOC documents from the Parallel with no problems, it just automatically switches to the Mac side to open the document.

Hello Forum colleagues,

I am working with SDL Trados Studio 2011 on a Mac running Parallels Desktop 8 and Windows 7. I have Microsoft Office Suite 2008 for Mac installed on the Mac side, and so far have been able to open .DOC documents from the Parallel with no problems, it just automatically switches to the Mac side to open the document.

have had no problems running any of the features in SDL Trados until I tried to generate a preview. Then I receive this error message:

"The Word document cannot be previewed.... Please note you will need Word 2003 or 2007 installed to preview .doc files and Word 2007 installed to preview .docx files."

Can anyone help me figure this out? Does this really mean I'll have to install a whole new copy of Office Suite just for SDL to use? Mac versions of Word do not exist for 2003 and 2007, they do even years for Mac software.

Thank you!

Word:mac 2008 is a strange phenomenon. For example, it doesn't support VBA/macros. It's the worst version of Word:mac imaginable.

But the Redmondians do in fact uneven years for Word:mac.

So yes, you're in trouble, trouble you can easily solve by installing the free LibreOffice. Or forget about Windows and the most unused CAT tool altogether, of course…

Cheers,

Hans

Yes, you have to install a copy of Office for SDL if you want to use the preview function.

I have Word for Mac (2011) on the host-side (Mac) AND Word 2003 in Windows (Parallels).

Agree with Tarja Mar 7, 2013

Of course you will need a PC version of the Office Suite (2003 preferably), since what you're trying to use is a function whose behaviour is linked to the Windows environment. Your Word for Mac cannot interact with SDL software.
